Access to Hardware, Betas, Events and Other News (2020)

Hardware: Based on your application acceptance, your Rift and/or Go kits will be shipped on a rolling basis this year. Of course, we appreciate your patience as deliveries can take some time. We look forward to your unboxing picts and videos. Please be sure to indicate that this is a #sponsored post or #gift from Oculus in any postings online or in print to help ensure compliance with FTC brand guidelines.

A note on Hardware Access: Oculus Quest developer kits are very limited. Should this change in the future, we will be sure to let the Oculus Start community know first. We encourage you to develop for 6DOF by building your app for the Oculus Rift, from which you can migrate to the Oculus Quest with some optimization and integration changes. Learn more about Quest publishing guidelines.

Betas: We don't have any beta tools or services launching yet but keep an eye out on your inbox for invitations in the coming months.

IGDA: To sign up for your complimentary one year IGDA membership, you can register directly on the IGDA registration page for Oculus Start members.

Events: More Events Info Coming Soon.

Engine Savings (2020)

Unity Developers: If you are new to Oculus Start, you should have received a coupon code to redeem for a one-year Unity Plus license key. Check your Oculus Start Welcome email for details. Please don't forget to redeem your coupon as they expire at the end of December, 2019. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us (it won't count against your support conversation limit).

Unreal Developers: You can license Epic's Unreal Engine and Oculus will cover the royalty due to Epic for sales on the Oculus platforms, until your cumulative revenue from such app sales is $5,000,000. You will obtain the engine license directly from Epic and are responsible for compliance with its terms, and must opt-in via your developer dashboard in order to participate in this program. We hope you enjoy the developer kit with gifts (the “Gifts”) you have received or will be receiving soon. We are providing these Gifts to you free of charge with no expectation of anything in return. The Gifts are for your own personal use only. You may not sell or transfer the Gifts to any third party, including as a prize or giveaway, without the express, written permission of Oculus. Should you choose to post a photo or video that features any Oculus products or Gifts (the “Review”), including on any blog, website and/or social media channel, please abide by the following guidelines:

  1. Your Review must be truthful and not misleading or deceptive. Your Review must reflect your honest opinion(s), finding(s), belief(s) and experience(s) based on your personal use or experience with the Oculus product.
  2. In order to comply with the obligations set forth in the Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising, your Review must contain a disclosure of the fact that you received the Gifts free of charge from Oculus (the “Disclosure”). Such Disclosure must be prominent, clear and conspicuous and communicated in a way that your followers are likely to notice and understand. Consider font size, color, location and terminology. For example, your Disclosure should be in legible font size and color, located in close proximity to the Review and readily viewable (e.g., it should not be located at the bottom of your post or buried in your web site’s terms of use, in a pop-up window, or via hyperlink). It doesn’t have to be complicated – it should just be straightforward and up front. Here are a couple of examples of how this Disclosure can be made very easily and simply:
    • “I accepted a free Oculus Start Dev Kit from Oculus in connection with my post/review.”
    • “Thanks Oculus for the free Oculus Start Dev Kit and I think...”
    • “This post is sponsored by Oculus.”
  3. For space-constrained social media channels (e.g., Twitter, Instagram), you should include an abbreviated form of Disclosure in the same post as your Review. For example, by including “#Sponsored” or “#Ad” immediately before or after the Review.
  4. If you do decide to post a Review, we’d love to see it! Please #OculusStart or send a link to your Review to oculusstart@oculus.com once your Review goes “live”.
  5. By posting a Review, you agree that Oculus (and its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, assigns and licensees) has the right to link to, re-publish, share and/or use your Review, or any part thereof, in any manner and media, throughout the world, in perpetuity and may (but is not obligated to) attribute the Review to you (by using your name, or username) and/or the site(s) or platforms on which it was posted. If your Review includes references to or images of third parties or content provided by third parties, you represent and warrant that you have all necessary permissions from such third parties to permit Oculus to use such references, images and/or content as described in the preceding sentence.
