All Oculus Quest developers MUST PASS the concept review prior to gaining publishing access to the Quest Store and additional resources. Submit a concept document for review as early in your Quest application development cycle as possible. For additional information and context, please see Submitting Your App to the Oculus Quest Store.
Mixed Reality Capture is in development. We are continuing to improve the experience, and the set up flow may change.
Mixed Reality Capture places real-world objects in VR. In other words, it mixes images from the real world with the virtual one.
Oculus Mixed Reality Capture enables creators and developers to capture footage of themselves superimposed in the virtual world of supported Oculus content. It helps your audience experience the immersion and magic of VR, even when viewing from a 2D surface.
Mixed Reality Capture uses an external camera, such as a webcam, to capture real-world images, against a green-screen, and combine them with a scene generated by a mixed reality supported VR app to create a single blended scene. As a user interacts with the VR app, their real world movements are matched to their movements in VR.
Before any calibrations, configuration, or implementation, you need to acquire a PC and camera that meet the performance requirements of mixed reality capture. Review the Device and System Configuration page for hardware and device specifications required for Mixed Reality Capture. You will also need a wireless router that supports 5Ghz networks.
Review the guidelines for creating a safe use environment in the Health and Safety warnings located at https://www.oculus.com/legal/health-and-safety-warnings/.
You’ll also need an app that supports Mixed Reality Capture. See the Supported Apps page for the current list of supported apps.
If you’re looking to add Mixed Reality Capture to your own app, see the Unity - Mixed Reality Capture, Unreal - Mixed Reality Capture, or Native - Mixed Reality Capture pages for more information.
Finally, download the MRC Tools for Oculus Quest.
There are two steps to capturing mixed reality capture scenes. Setting up your Oculus Quest and external camera, and compositing the final scene in Open Broadcaster Software.
Launch the Mixed Reality Capture Tool on your PC to start the camera calibration process. Follow the steps in the tool to install and run the MRC Tools for Oculus Quest on your Quest and use it to connect to your PC.
Then, you’ll calibrate your external camera to capture the real world images. You can learn more on the Camera Calibration page.
Once you’ve finished the setup and configuration, you can launch a mixed reality capture capable app and composite the final scene together in OBS using the Oculus Mixed Reality plugin. If you have not previously installed OBS, please do so now. Please review the Composite the Scene page for information about this process.
